Pokemon TCG Pocket launches Team Rocket's Ambition with a code challenge and late-summer event run

The launch comes with more than a card pool

Pokemon's own release post gives the hard dates. Team Rocket's Ambition goes live August 26 at 6 p.m. PDT. Giovanni-and-Persian themed covers and backdrops follow on August 31. A separate Great Puzzle Challenge will hand out serial codes that can be redeemed for pack hourglasses, with more details promised alongside the expansion release.

The event calendar stretches the story into September. Pokemon says a Team Rocket's Ambition Emblem Event runs from late August into mid-September, shady-ticket missions run from late August into late September, Team Rocket's Lapras promo packs arrive through special solo battles in early to late September, and a wonder pick event later in the month adds Fennekin and Meowstic promo cards.

That makes the launch more useful to track than a normal one-day content patch. Players who open packs casually can ignore the calendar and still see the new cards. Players trying to maximize hourglasses, promo packs, and timed rewards cannot.

Team Rocket nostalgia is doing real work here

The loudest early response was not only about Giovanni nostalgia. A separate r/PokemonPocket thread about Owner's Pokemon drew comments from players who said they had not followed the paper game closely and only realized through Pocket that the mechanic has older roots in the physical TCG. That is a good sign for Pokemon's crossover play: the set is pulling in longtime fans who recognize Team Rocket instantly and newer Pocket-first players who are learning older card ideas through the app.

The other split is more practical. In the trailer thread, some players focused on the look and flavor of the reveal, while others pushed back on the apparent power level of cards shown in previews. That mix usually helps a digital set stay relevant for longer than a single launch window. Art-first collectors have something to chase, and deck builders have something to argue about.

Keep the digital drop separate from the paper Pokemon calendar

This story sits next to the paper Pokemon release schedule, but it is not the same buying decision. The official August 2026 Pokemon TCG calendar still has the Mega Evolution-Ascended Heroes tin set for August 28 in physical retail. Team Rocket's Ambition is a Pokemon TCG Pocket expansion for iOS and Android, with its own reward loop, event cadence, and code-redemption hook.
