CGC Cards now grades trading card games full-time at its Hong Kong office, giving Pokemon, Magic, One Piece and other TCG collectors in Asia a local grading path instead of routing every eligible TCG submission to Florida.

CGC announced the Hong Kong expansion on October 5 and said TCG submissions handled through the office will no longer be shipped to its Sarasota headquarters for grading. The move lands in the same week as the Asia Super Collectors Convention in Macau, where CGC and JSA are also offering on-site grading from October 9 through October 11.

That timing matters for slab buyers because grading location can change the path a card takes before it reaches a marketplace, a live break inventory pile or a collector's vault. It does not change the need to check the label, cert, grade, declared service and seller terms before treating any slab as interchangeable.

TCG cards get the local path first

CGC says only TCGs are currently graded full-time in Hong Kong. The company named Pokemon, Magic and One Piece examples in the announcement imagery and points collectors to its Hong Kong cards-we-grade page for eligible categories.

The biggest operational change is routing. CGC says TCG submissions in Hong Kong will stay closer to home instead of being shipped to Florida for grading. A team of relocated CGC graders and locally trained talent will handle full-time TCG grading while using the same global grading standards.

CGC also says there is no additional fee for local grading. Submissions can be made through an Authorized Dealer or directly to the Hong Kong office, with office visits by appointment only.

Sports cards and mixed orders still have a different route

The announcement is narrower than a full card-grading shift. CGC says sports cards, non-sports cards and mixed orders that include TCGs with other card types will continue to be shipped with insurance to its Sarasota headquarters, then returned through the Hong Kong office after grading.

That distinction is the first thing collectors should check. A Pokemon-only submission may follow the new local TCG route. A mixed batch with sports cards may not. A seller saying "graded in Hong Kong" is not enough without the card type, service path and certification details.

For break buyers, the same caveat applies to slabs used as chase cards. A CGC slab can be legitimate, but the listing still needs to show the cert number, grade, card identity and what happens if a shipped slab differs from the shown card.

ASCC adds a second grading window

CGC also tied the Hong Kong expansion to on-site grading events in the region. Its announcement says CGC will continue hosting on-site grading with certain shows, including the Asia Super Collectors Convention in Macau from October 9 through October 11.

A separate CGC and JSA notice says card submissions for ASCC on-site grading may be dropped off at CGC's Hong Kong office through Sunday, October 11, or submitted at the show. That on-site path is separate from ordinary full-time Hong Kong TCG grading.

Collectors should separate the two offers. Full-time TCG grading is the new ongoing Hong Kong service. ASCC on-site grading is an event-specific lane tied to a show window. The right question is not just "Can CGC grade it locally?" It is "Which service, which deadline and which card category applies?"

The slab takeaway for Pokemon and break buyers

Pokemon 30th Celebration and other TCG demand has kept sealed product, singles and slabs moving through retail drops, marketplaces and live-break listings. A local CGC grading path in Hong Kong can add another supply route for graded TCG cards from Asia, but it does not make every slab a cleaner buy.

Before buying a TCG slab or joining a break built around graded cards, check the certification number on CGC's site, confirm the exact card and grade, and read the seller's shipping and substitution rules. If the slab is part of a mystery pack, slab pack or live break, the listing should make clear whether the shown examples are actual cards in the pool or only representative examples.

The expansion is useful because it gives Asian TCG collectors a more direct grading option. The buyer discipline stays the same: verify the cert, understand the service path and do not let a fresh grading announcement replace normal slab checks.
